In the summer, the system moves heat and humidity out of your home to cool it. In the winter, it draws heat from the outdoor air and moves it into your home to warm it up.
If you have an aging heating system that’s lost a lot of its fuel efficiency, then a heat pump might be a good investment. This is especially true if your home uses a boiler for heating and doesn’t have ductwork. A split system can be installed quickly and easily in just about any space without ducts.
Heat pump splits are also great options for areas of your home that aren’t heated and cooled by a ductwork, including attics, guest houses and new rooms.
Heat pump split systems offer some fantastic heating and cooling advantages. They are incredibly effective and efficient when cooling your home. Unlike central A/C systems, split systems have “zoned cooling” features, allowing you to save money by keeping different rooms at different temperatures.
But there is a reason that heat pumps were not initially common in Massachusetts. They have been known to struggle to maintain warm temperatures in periods of sustained freezing weather.
